Zammit Cutajar to deliver analysis on UN climate talks

By Ed King

The former head of the UNFCCC will visit London on Thursday 9 February to deliver RTCC’s first lecture of 2012.

The title of the talk will be: “20 years of talking: What have the global climate negotiations achieved?”

Michael Zammit Cutajar presided over the creation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1991.

He will reflect on 20 years of climate talks, and offer his analysis on the COP17 Durban Platform and the forthcoming Rio+20 summit.

Zammit Cutajar led the UNFCCC at the first Earth Summit in 1992, as well as overseeing the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997.

The lecture will be held in partnership with the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), one of the UK’s leading think tanks, which also aims to develop effective strategies to deal with global warming through the Global Climate Network.
