Climate body launches social media campaign to raise profile of global deal ahead of April ceremony
By Alex Pashley
The UN is launching a social media blitz to drum up support for last December’s Paris agreement.
It calls on politicians, business leaders and citizens to upload a 30-second video on channels like Twitter or Facebook under the hashtags #ParisAgreement and #Means4Me.
Almost 200 countries agreed for the first time in 2015 on a global framework to curb carbon emissions. This April, they are invited to sign the document at the UN’s base in New York.
For renewable energy companies it might mean new jobs. Health bodies might highlight the benefits of better air quality. Faith leaders might pick up on the moral message.
To kick it off, here’s the UN’s top climate official, Christiana Figueres. The campaign runs to 28 February.
